J. Villanueva's debut chapbook, "Roadside Frutería." Twelve stunning poems; formatted, printed, and bound in Houston, Texas.

J. Villanueva is a Chicano writer/poet from deep south Texas. When he is not agonizing in front of his computer, he is build- ing and riding his motorcycles. J. has words featured in or forthcoming from Taco Bell Quarterly, Alebrijes Review, The Indianapolis Review, and Gutslut Press. He is currently an MFA student at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. You can follow him on Twitter: @jay_theaztec.

"J. Villanueva balances the reader between an untethered weightlessness and a familial connection. ‘Roadside Frutería’ utilizes return as a motif to pull the reader into a cyclical, emotional landscape. This book felt like the grief of continuity and the wonder of finding a new side street in your hometown."

— Keagan Wheat, poet

"A motorcycle. A frutería off the highway, offering up memories. J. Villanueva’s poems wind and twist through the past, taking us back to his childhood. ‘Roadside Frutería’ is an intimate look at a family’s history and culture, and as J. revisits these moments in time, we are all along for the ride."

— Kimberly Wolf, poet
