“‘Grief Birds’ is a mosaic of unspoken intimacies. In the kitchen off-shift, or the bodega with the kind cat, we’re masterfully guided through a dreamlike passage in search of a life parallel to our grieving; no longer looking to shroud in the face of unrivaled joy. Moe will leave you with an insatiable hunger and still, so full of love.”

— C. Heyne, author of “my room (and other wombs)”

“Sam Moe’s words will crawl into your chest and coax out emotions long dormant, long forgotten, and long unrecognized. ‘Grief Birds’ is a feast of lush, seasoned descriptions and visceral, of-the-body evocations that will somehow leave you both satiated and craving seconds. Moe paints a sprawling queer odyssey of kitchens, love, architecture, intimacy, nature, New England, mythology, and the self. You will never be able to dine in, ocean gaze, or birdwatch the same again—in all the best and most tender ways.”

— (re)becca meier, author of “small wings”
