A POEM by NOLCHA FOX

This Is Not That Kind of Poem

This is not a poem of complaint.

This is not a poem of sorrow.

I have no blood or pus to expel.

I have no ire or angst to depress.

I only want to mention

the wind shimmering the leaves

is why it’s a

quaking aspen.

Hints of bright red

painted on leaves

is why it’s a

burning bush.

The slant of the light

I can’t inhale

is why it’s a

change to autumn.

I only want to mention

the sparkling air

is why it’s a

call to joy.
