A POEM by MJ BEACH

Dirt Track

Take me home and have your way with me, stud!

Hubba hubba, one night only, here comes a winner,
a big winner, a big winner, baby, in the victory lane, baby,

you in your fire suit, and suddenly
I'm big in the business of forgetting who I am.

Plumber, steam-fitter, driver, driver, driver!

Undress me into the promise of a normal life.

Joy is coming, driver, if I can convince myself.

Joy is coming, life is coming, fuck it if I'm not coming,

or, at least, I'm trying.
