TWO POEMS by JAI KNIGHT

Early Bird

Naturally I’m a nightbird

but this wintery morning I’m awake before most have got up

out with mallards & watching a swan wash

along the canal

and it’s when in view of lime weeping willows

a calm comes over me

nagging infernal voices quietened

deep tissue mind massage

darting lil family of wabbits scurry back into the foliage

grey heron swooping

and birdies hopping on the path

my shipwrecked mind’s embarrassment of riches
